WCIRC's research portfolio has been recently activated with the task of creating a micro-credit specific MIS/FIS, which will be followed by an impact assessment study of micro-credit initiatives across the country. Management Information System/ Financial Information System In view of the desire of various NGOs with whom we are in contact as well as the expressed concern of the donor community, WCIRC embarked upon development of a simple but functional Information Management System specifically relevant to micro-credit activities. Such a MIS can help many organizations that have begun working in the field of micro-credit but despite the diligence of their efforts, they lack basic indicators and guidelines to effectively record, monitor and access their activities. Our research activity was planned to first approach small ngos and MFIs and obtain information regarding their existing capacity through a questionnaire. At the next stage this information was to be analyzed and simultaneously the management systems of more successful and sophisticated Micro Finance Institutions/NGOs considered. Then in the design stage (through the required technical input) we planned to adapt existing MIS/FIS in view of the capacities and needs of smaller NGOs. The final stage of this activity was to implement this MIS amongst relevant NGOs. Currently we at the second stage of the above mentioned plan and are analyzing the information obtained from NGOs/MFIs.
